Hello, my name is Christina Schneyder, and I warmly welcome to you in our video series “Tips and Tricks for Companies When Hiring People with Disabilities.” I am the Managing Director at the Austrian Federation for Vocational Inclusion. Our goal is to support both companies on their journey towards an inclusive workplace and individuals with disabilities in their search for employment.

This time, we want to explore the internal and external support services that your company can utilize when hiring or has already hired people with disabilities.
Let’s take a look at that.

The best approach is to get in touch with the business service in your federal state. It assists you with recruitment and connects you with other support services for the integration and guidance of people with disabilities in your company.
Job coaching and job assistance help with the development of specific social skills in the workplace. This can be especially important for employees with autism or intellectual disabilities. They support your employee, as well as you and your team, if necessary.

These tasks can be taken over by another person in your company after guidance from the vocational assistance network.
This person can be a colleague, a team leader, or a supervisor. In most cases, in my experience, the employee with a disability just needs the assurance of knowing where to turn; that’s all.

This was about natural support. Other forms of support can include flexible working hours, an adapted computer, a special chair, or reviewing the building for wheelchair accessibility. Well, I’ll share that in my next video about workplace accommodations with you. Take a look at it!
